The best suppressor for a Ruger Mark IV is the Reticent 22. It threads directly onto the factory 1/2×28 rimfire muzzle, and at 2.5 oz it adds 5.8% to 10% to the pistol’s weight, depending on the model. On a 22/45 Lite, the whole suppressed package weighs just 27.5 ounces.
That last number is the one to remember. A 22/45 Lite wearing a Reticent 22 still weighs less than a bare, unsuppressed Mark IV Standard at 28.2 ounces.
Not every Mark IV ships threaded, though. Here’s which models do, what the Reticent 22 adds to each, and which one we’d pick to suppress.
Because it’s the lightest full-size .22 suppressor, on a pistol that rewards light. The Reticent 22 weighs 2.5 ounces, measures 5″ long and 1″ in diameter, and is built from Grade 5 titanium printed with DMLS (direct metal laser sintering, which builds the part layer by layer from metal powder).
The Reticent 22 threads straight onto any 1/2×28 rimfire muzzle, the thread Ruger uses on every threaded Mark IV. No mount or adapter needed.
It still suppresses like a full-size unit. On our standard test host, a Ruger Precision Rimfire, the Reticent 22 recorded a lowest shot of 113.4 dB on a Larson Davis meter under Mil-Std-1474D. For how those numbers change on a pistol, see our guide to the best .22 suppressor for a pistol.
The Reticent 22 direct-threads onto every threaded Ruger Mark IV and adds just 2.5 oz, while metering like a full-size suppressor.
As of September 2026, five Mark IV configurations ship with a 1/2×28 rimfire threaded barrel and a thread protector, according to Ruger’s spec sheets: threaded 22/45 Lite models, the 22/45 with the threaded bull barrel, the 22/45 Tactical, the Tactical, and the stainless Target in its threaded bull configuration.
Four of the five share a 4.4″ barrel. The threaded stainless Target runs a 5.5″ bull barrel and is the heaviest of the group at 42.8 ounces.
Several Mark IV models ship without a threaded barrel. Ruger lists no threading on the Standard, the Hunter, the Competition, or the blued aluminum Target. Check the model number rather than the family name, because the Target and the 22/45 Lite each come both ways.
The 22/45 Lite, 22/45, 22/45 Tactical, Tactical, and threaded stainless Target ship ready for a suppressor. The Standard, Hunter, Competition, and aluminum Target do not.
Between 5.8% and 10% of the pistol’s weight. The lighter the Mark IV, the bigger the share, so suppressor weight matters most on the lightest models.
On the 25-ounce 22/45 Lite, the Reticent 22 adds 10%. On the 33.3-ounce 22/45 and 22/45 Tactical, it’s 7.5%. On the 42.8-ounce threaded stainless Target, it’s 5.8%, which you’ll barely register on a pistol that heavy.
Here’s the comparison that tells the story. A 22/45 Lite wearing a Reticent 22 weighs 27.5 ounces. A bare Mark IV Standard, no suppressor, weighs 28.2. You get a suppressed pistol that still weighs less than an unsuppressed one from the same family.

A Reticent 22 adds 5.8% to 10% to a threaded Mark IV, and a suppressed 22/45 Lite at 27.5 ounces still weighs less than a bare Mark IV Standard.
Three reasons: the barrel doesn’t move, the pistol comes apart with one button, and there’s a Mark IV for almost every shooter.
The Mark IV’s barrel is fixed to the receiver, and the bolt cycles inside it. Ruger credits that internal cylindrical bolt with permanent sight-to-barrel alignment. For a suppressor, it means the Reticent 22 rides on a barrel that stays put, shot after shot.
Takedown is one button at the back of the frame. Press it and the barrel-receiver assembly tilts up and off the grip frame without tools, which makes chamber-to-muzzle cleaning simple after a suppressed range day.
The Mark IV is also one of the most popular .22 pistols made, and the lineup shows it. Grip frames come in polymer, aluminum, and stainless steel. Barrels run from 4.4″ to 6.88″, finishes range from blued and satin stainless to anodized colors, and the aftermarket for triggers, grips, and optic mounts is deep.
Whatever Mark IV you pick, the suppressor question stays the same: is it threaded 1/2×28 rimfire?
A fixed barrel, one-button takedown, and a model for nearly every shooter make the Ruger Mark IV one of the easiest pistols to suppress well.
Start with a threaded 22/45 Lite. It’s the lightest threaded Mark IV at 25 ounces, and with a Reticent 22 on the muzzle it comes in at 27.5. That’s the Mark IV that keeps its balance best with a suppressor out front.
For the lowest entry price, the 22/45 with the threaded bull barrel (model 40190) lists at $449 MSRP. It’s heavier at 33.3 ounces, so the Reticent 22 changes it even less.
For a steel target pistol, the threaded stainless Target (model 40126) runs a 5.5″ bull barrel at 42.8 ounces. At that weight, a 2.5-ounce suppressor all but disappears.
Already own a threaded Mark IV? You’re set. Once your Reticent 22 is approved, thread it on and go shoot. If you haven’t started that process, here’s how to buy a suppressor from start to finish.
Buy the threaded 22/45 Lite for the lightest suppressed Mark IV, the threaded 22/45 for the lowest price, or the threaded stainless Target for a steel target pistol.
When the barrel isn’t threaded. The Mark IV Standard, Hunter, Competition, and aluminum Target ship with plain muzzles per Ruger’s spec sheets, and some 22/45 Lite and stainless Target models do too. No suppressor attaches to a bare muzzle.
The good news: several manufacturers sell aftermarket threaded barrels for the Mark IV. Swap the factory barrel for one threaded 1/2×28 rimfire and you’re good to go.
The other check is length. The Hunter and Competition run 6.88″ barrels and 11.12″ overall. Thread one, add a 5″ suppressor, and you’re holding a pistol about 16″ long. That’s a range gun, not the compact package a 4.4″ 22/45 Lite makes.
An unthreaded Mark IV needs a threaded 1/2×28 rimfire barrel first. Once it has one, the Reticent 22 fits.
The Reticent 22 is the lightest full-size .22 suppressor at 2.5 ounces, Grade 5 titanium that threads straight onto any threaded Mark IV. Put it on a 22/45 Lite and the whole suppressed pistol still weighs less than a bare Mark IV Standard. For the full teardown and sound data, read the Reticent 22 review.
Yes, if your Mark IV has a 1/2×28 rimfire threaded barrel. The threaded 22/45 Lite, 22/45, 22/45 Tactical, Tactical, and threaded stainless Target all ship that way from Ruger. The Reticent 22 threads straight on with no adapter. An unthreaded Mark IV needs an aftermarket threaded barrel first.
Ruger ships threaded barrels with thread protectors on threaded 22/45 Lite models, the 22/45 with the threaded bull barrel, the 22/45 Tactical, the Tactical, and the stainless Target model 40126. The Standard, Hunter, Competition, and aluminum Target ship unthreaded. Check your model number, since some families come both ways.
Threaded Ruger Mark IV pistols use a 1/2×28 rimfire thread, the standard rimfire muzzle thread. The Reticent 22 direct-threads onto it with no adapter. Every threaded Mark IV, from the 25 ounce 22/45 Lite to the 42.8 ounce stainless Target, uses the same thread, so one Reticent 22 moves between all of them.
The Reticent 22 weighs 2.5 ounces, which adds 10% to a 25 ounce 22/45 Lite. The suppressed pistol weighs 27.5 ounces, still lighter than a bare Mark IV Standard at 28.2 ounces. On heavier threaded Mark IV models, the share drops as low as 5.8%.
Not directly. A suppressor needs a threaded muzzle. Swap the factory barrel for an aftermarket Mark IV barrel threaded 1/2×28 rimfire. Several manufacturers make them. Once the muzzle is threaded, the Reticent 22 threads straight on like it does on a factory threaded Mark IV.
