Is the Ruger Precision Rimfire Discontinued?

Ruger RPR 22LR Vanquish 22

No. The Ruger Precision Rimfire is not being discontinued. On October 13, 2026, Ruger told distributors it would end or suspend 19 product families, and the Ruger Precision Rifle, the centerfire bolt gun, is one of them. The Ruger Precision Rimfire is a separate rifle, and Ruger lists it among the models continuing into 2027.

The similar names are where the confusion started. Here’s what Ruger actually cut, and what it means if you shoot an RPR rimfire.

Which Ruger models are being discontinued?

Ruger split the cuts into two groups. Four revolver families stopped production immediately, and Ruger canceled open distributor orders for them. Fifteen more families get a final production run through the end of 2026, then end.

Model family Type Status
LCR Revolver Suspended immediately
SP101 Revolver Suspended immediately
GP100 Revolver Suspended immediately
Bearcat Revolver Suspended immediately
Redhawk and Super Redhawk Revolver Final run through 2026
Blackhawk and Super Blackhawk Revolver Final run through 2026
Vaquero Revolver Final run through 2026
Single-Series revolvers Revolver Final run through 2026
SR1911 Pistol Final run through 2026
PC Carbine and PC Charger Pistol-caliber carbine and pistol Final run through 2026
LC Carbine and LC Charger Pistol-caliber carbine and pistol Final run through 2026
No. 1 Rifle Final run through 2026
77-Series Rifle Final run through 2026
Hawkeye Rifle Final run through 2026
Ruger Precision Rifle (centerfire) Rifle Final run through 2026

Ruger announced these by product family, not by SKU, and hasn’t published model-number lists. One open question: SSUSA notes the status of the GP100 Match Champion is unclear because the Ruger Custom Shop builds it.

Ruger also left the door open. Abbey Clary, Ruger’s director of media, advertising and public relations, told American Rifleman the move is part of the company’s Ruger 2030 strategy and “does not necessarily mean these product families are permanently discontinued.”

Ruger is ending 19 product families. Four revolvers stopped immediately, and 15 more, including the centerfire Ruger Precision Rifle, end after a final 2026 run.

Is the Ruger Precision Rimfire being discontinued?

No. The Ruger Precision Rimfire is not on Ruger’s list. Ruger’s statement to American Rifleman names the rifles that remain: the American Rifle and American Rimfire lines, the Ruger Precision Rimfire, the Harrier, the 10/22, and the Mini-14.

The mix-up is a naming problem. The Ruger Precision Rifle and the Ruger Precision Rimfire share a name and a chassis look, and many headlines shortened both to “Ruger Precision” or “RPR.” Only the centerfire Ruger Precision Rifle is ending.

As of October 21, 2026, Ruger’s site still lists the Ruger Precision Rimfire in 22 LR, 17 HMR, and 22 WMR, model numbers 8400 through 8412, at $629 MSRP for the standard models.

The Ruger Precision Rimfire is one of six rifle families Ruger is keeping into 2027. Only the centerfire Ruger Precision Rifle is ending.

What does this mean if you own a Ruger Precision Rimfire?

You’re building on a rifle Ruger chose to keep. When a company cuts 19 product families and the Ruger Precision Rimfire survives, that’s a clear signal about where the rifle stands. Upgrades you put on it are not going to orphan themselves.

Our Vanquish 22 for the Ruger Precision Rimfire replaces the factory barrel with an 18″ integrally suppressed barrel. It’s a precision ported 416R stainless barrel with a Bentz match chamber and 1-16″ twist, inside a 6061 aluminum shroud. It adds no length past the muzzle and weighs 20.7 oz. The porting brings standard-velocity 22 LR down to subsonic, so you don’t need specialty subsonic ammo.

Two limits to know. The Vanquish 22 for the Ruger Precision Rimfire is a 22 LR barrel, so it’s built for the 22 LR rifle, not the 17 HMR or 22 WMR versions. The Bentz chamber also won’t take CCI Stinger, whose case is longer than a standard 22 LR case. For more velocity, CCI Velocitor uses a standard case length.

The Ruger Precision Rimfire is staying, so it’s a safe rifle to build on. The Vanquish 22 for the Ruger Precision Rimfire fits the 22 LR model.

Build on the rifle Ruger kept

Your Ruger Precision Rimfire isn’t going anywhere. The Vanquish 22 RPR turns it into a suppressed tack driver: a fully rifled, baffleless barrel with a Bentz match chamber and no added length past the muzzle. It swaps in for the factory barrel and keeps your rifle the same length it is today.

Yes, after a final run. Ruger told distributors on October 13, 2026 that the centerfire Ruger Precision Rifle gets a final production run through the end of 2026. Ruger says some product families may return in new forms later, but it has announced no specific plans or dates.

No. The Ruger 10/22 is on Ruger’s list of rifles continuing into 2027. The Vanquish 22 integrally suppressed barrel for the 10/22 and the Vanquish 22 for the Ruger Precision Rimfire both fit rifles Ruger is keeping in production, so either upgrade stays current.

Ruger says the cuts are part of its Ruger 2030 strategy. A Ruger spokesperson cited consumer demand, changing market preferences, and manufacturing complexity, and said the goal is to focus on the products customers want most. Ruger also said this doesn’t necessarily mean the families are gone for good.
